What is Proyecto Capital?

The Capital Project supports the implementation of public policies that link social protection with inclusion in the financial system in Latin America and the Caribbean by promoting grassroots savings.
The long-range goal of the Capital Project is to promote the equitable inclusion of citizens and social protection with productive development. This means increasing poor families’ human, social, financial and physical capital while facilitating effectiveness (good governance) and efficiency, as well as economic growth and stimulation of markets for their products.
Over the next five years, the Capital Project’s goal is to assist public sectors that implement models for inclusion of the poor in financial systems and capitalization of the poor through access to and periodic use of savings accounts. This experience will help refine public policies for combating poverty and exclusion.
In its first phase, launched in 2008, the Capital Project, sponsored by the Ford Foundation, is promoting the use of savings accounts in formal financial system, complementing conditional cash Transfer Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean.
